Your women's studies class has a huge debate whether young children still hold stereotyped views about what professions men and women can hold. How could you test this with access to several kindergarten classes?
Hypothesis
The young children will have stereotypes on the possible professions of men and women. They would vote that men should have jobs like businessman, police and women should be nurse, artist.
Independent Variable
Number of kids participating(60), Type of survey(a chart with jobs for each individual)
Dependent Variable
The results of the survey
Controlled Variable
The career of the participant’s parents, The child’s knowledge or understanding of the profession, The gender of the instructor
Experiment
The children taking this survey should be attending kindergarten school. There should be equal number of boys and girls; 30boys and 30 girls.
The survey will be taken in a quiet, private room. Before the actual survey is taken, they would be asked on what kind of job their mom and dad has.
Each child will be given stickers and a job chart. He or she has to put a red sticker for each job that one thinks will suit women and a blue sticker for men. This will be a double blinded test to make the kids least influence each other’s opinions. The kid can also put both red and blue sticker for a job.
The results should be compared with other student’s surveys, after all of the students are finished with the survey. The number of red and blue stickers will be counted separately for each job, to analyze the results.
